Bradworthy Carnival

This is an annual event held on New Year’s Day when the Bradworthy Inn kindly let the Carnival Committee take over the kitchen and serve brunch and Bucks Fizz to over 200 people.   The cooking, serving, table laying etc is all covered by our fabulous team and although its hard work it is a fun day.   Bookings are taken well in advance for half hourly sittings between 11am and 2.30pm.  

This annual event is such fun and a great community get together.  Tickets are brought in advance and you will meet at the Memorial Hall to be collected by tractor and trailer and driven about 3 miles out of the village.  You will then follow a signposted route back to the village across farmland which is not usually accessible to the public (thanks to the local farmers for allowing this).  There will be 3 Cider stops along the way and when you eventually get back to the village hall you will be rewarded with your Pasty.   It’s a great event to get to meet new people and discover the layout of the village from whichever direction you return and the Church will be on the horizon as the beacon in which to head.  

Even though they're from the ‘Wild-Westcountry’ (AKA Devon) They have a full professional set-up  that will rock Bradworthy.

This is a team event with tables of 6 people held in the Memorial Hall.  Your wisdom is tested by 8 rounds of 10 questions ranging from history, geography, pictures, etc.   Each table is laid up with cheese, bread and a bottle of wine (option to buy more).   The evening is controlled by our excellent quiz master Simon Downing whose decision is always final of course.     The Social Club is open with a fully stocked bar. 

This is always held on the Wednesday leading up to Carnival Day (August Bank Holiday Saturday).   The Social Club skittle alley is used along with three extra skittle alleys in the Village Hall and teams of 6 (to include 2 ladies) battle it out to win the cup.   It is a well contested event but its just the luck of the draw as to which team you will be playing against.

Always held on August Bank Holiday Saturday and truly reflects the community spirit with everyone helping to bring the event to life.   On the Friday evening the stage will be set up in the Square to showcase the band.  The Square will be cleared of cars and fencing will be erected around to make an enclosure and then bar tent, food outlets, funfair rides etc will set up on the Saturday morning.   Crowds will gather from early evening to see the crowning of the royalty, whilst the floats will assemble on the local football field and at the allocated time will follow a well-planned route around the village.  Once the procession has been completed the focus will then be on the village square when the fabulous band “Loose Cannons” will perform on the stage.   The square will bounce with the music blasting and everyone enjoying themselves.   Then at 11pm the evening will be finished off with a fantastic firework display.
